What’s New for Virginia’s 2026–2027 Hunting & Trapping Seasons

Changes to the Printed Hunting & Trapping in Virginia Regulations Book

  • We’ve redesigned the hunting regulations book, now known as the Virginia Hunting, Trapping, and Migratory Game Bird Seasons book, to make it easier to use. The new layout focuses on the information hunters and trappers use most often—season dates and bag limits—making it quicker to find what’s in season and where to plan a day in the field. The season information for hunting, trapping, and migratory game birds has been combined into a single publication for greater convenience. This effort allows DWR to reduce printing costs, minimize paper waste, and simplify the printed guide.

  • Only one (1) beardless turkey can be taken within the annual three-bird bag limit during fall seasons.

CWD

  • Mandatory CWD testing will take place in Bland, Grayson, Patrick, Shenandoah, Smyth, Tazewell, and Wythe counties on Saturday, November 14, 2026.
